Encaustic is an old Renaissance style of painting. Leslie uses her own personal technique for her artwork.
When she makes an encaustic painting, she uses chucks of beeswax that she chops into smaller pieces. Then melting the chunks in small metal tins on an electric burner. Each colour is mixed individually using pure powdered pigments. When the painting is done the final stage is called "burning in". Heat is applied to the entire surface of the painting. This is to burn in the layers of wax to the board.
